Welcome to Surroundings. Charles Hudman, John Kuykendall, and Francisco Sorto started Surroundings, a florist/garden market and landscaping company, on Capitol Hill in Washington DC in 2006 at a location near Union Station.  In 2008 Surroundings moved to its current location in DC on Lincoln Park and, in 2023, the company opened a second location on Cobb Island, Maryland.

The name was plucked from a Thesaurus, but so captured what the company wanted to offer residents.  We want to make your outdoor space as inviting and beautiful as your indoor space. You can think of it as a way to surround yourself in beauty. Charles and Francisco bring their artistic design and decades of knowledge of plants and landscaping to the projects of Surroundings’ clients.  Charles’ experience in gardening artistry and landscaping began over 45 years ago while Francisco has spent over 20 years honing his skills in those fields. John, an attorney with a business degree and over 30 years of legal and consulting expertise, completes the leadership team and brings strategic guidance to our ever-expanding small business. Together, we ensure that only the highest quality of work is performed by the staff of Surroundings and that the work is unique and corresponds to clients’ expectations.
